I've been participating at several Pakistani forums. Purpose was to get a feel for how Pakistanis view the Taliban and Al Qaeda. One forum is people with good educations, of them perhaps 1/2 to 2/3 are against the militants. On the other forums, it is reversed, one forum in particular almost everybody supports the militants. Overall, they are not seriously concerned with it as an issue. More concerned with their own internal politics, and Kashmir. Almost all detest America. Rejoicing at recent prison breakout.
Have run across astonishing racism. They frequently have negative racial opinions about their own ethnic groups, and external races and nationalities as well. Does not bode well for functional democracy. I have twice been told that I must be of ____ race or ethnicity, and that therefore my opinion was stupid. The last time it was Hindu. Told them my name is Mexican, so we'll see what they think of Mexican people. Read posts & comments re US elections. They are astonished that one of our candidates is a black man. Obama's Muslim connection somewhat baffles the racist reception of the idea. Obama is much preferred over McCain to replace the criminal Bush. But they see little hope in either candidate of change to US policy of aggression against Muslims.

I would like to ask for some assistance. I have been invited to Al-Ehklaas and Pearls of Jannah, however there were some technical problems and I could not gain access. I am overwhelmed at attempting to both monitor and interact. Please let me know if anyone is interested in helping me find and interact with these guys. (Also this person was on youtube, but the account is suspended so I lost him forever)

taken from an article from CNN today.
Al-Maliki aide: Iraqis mull leaving bilateral security talks Iraq is contemplating pulling out of security talks with the United States and developing their own legislation that would dictate the shape of the American military presence in the country, an Iraqi official said Thursday. The Iraqi government is considering this new tack out of frustration over the lack of success in negotiations with the United States over a long-term security agreement. Haidar Abadi, an aide to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, made the remarks to CNN on Thursday about the talks, which have sparked concern among Iraqis that a bilateral security pact will compromise the sovereignty of Iraq. Abadi said this issue must be broached with Americans, who "are here," making "sacrifices, and defending the country. "But, he said, "we can go now to the parliament," instead of reaching a bilateral agreement. He said there is precedent for Iraqi authority over foreign troops from a Coalition Provisional Authority measure cobbled together at the start of the occupation. "We can have our own law in Iraq to regulate the existing U.S. forces in Iraq," he said. Senior American officials involved in the negotiations tell CNN that Iraq's go-it-alone option is a legally viable alternative. However, the United States hopes to secure a status of forces agreement by the end of July, and officials commenting on those talks have underscored American respect for sovereignty and the fact that negotiations have yet to conclude. At present, a U.N. mandate governs the American military presence through the end of the year. |

From an Iranian source of mine who lives in the US came the following info. He just got back from visiting family in Iran. In the meetings this past week between Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki the following deal was offered by Iran to Iraq. This is sort of a take off on public information but what makes it different is that from many sources in Iran, the following is all but a done deal but not announced.
Iran offered to Iraq that if Iraq asks and gets the USA to leave Iraq, Iran will pledge to cooperate with Iraq and not invade them or anything to this nature. If Iraq doesn't ask the USA to leave, the Iranian deal is off the table. The difference on this info from the reported is, according to this source, this deal has been all but signed and will pend the Iraqis giving the USA the boot out. This is NOT a deal the USA was involved in at all. It will of course embarrass the USA and give Iran the chance to get its claws into Iraq. Comments? Here is a link to an article about the meetings. Please use website protocol for links here. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5j5leYnvOpPqrVCiXxC65pROPNYBAD916V2P00

Went to ktb-20.com, read several articles posted since 5-11-08. The overall tone is petulant. For instance, in one article about the guy shooting the Koran, the writer harangues the Arab people, telling them to wake up, saying the crime does not budge them. He says the Arab people will soon regret not responding to it as a major offense, and seems to warn them that Allah will abandon them for not defending their religion. He means it as a threat to Iraqis. That they will 'regret it, and very soon' might mean that he feels the occupation will prevail.
An article celebrating the 5th anniversary of their founding has a similar tone. After the usual stuff about how they have really socked it to the occupation, comes anger at the Iraqis who assist the occupation, and a threat that 'we will not forget you' once they win, a threat of revenge. The article reprimands Iraqis, saying the people should support and pray for the 1920 Rev. Brigade guys. In a 3rd article about action in Mosul, the writer is frankly angry at Iraqis for betraying the Brigade guys, says the people are weak and grasping for dollars. Repeatedly in all I read was the discussion of patience, of waiting for Allah to deliver them, of the years that had passed with little change. Of course they claimed many victories, but then would go on in what seemed a discouraged and frustrated attitude. The post titles near the end of '07 were mostly denying that they had ever fought al Qaeda or cooperated with the occupation, lots of denial posts. The rumor, true or not, lost them a lot of face. The tone, more than any detail, speaks of increasing isolation and less support. The defiant words are less convincing when written with bitter frustration. I would guess they also have lost many of their fighters, even that many are just quitting or moving to other arenas. I'm desertsnow, forgot to log in.
