http://www.afghanan.net/afghanistan/pashtunistanissue.htmDon't know enough of the particulars to verify any of that, but it seems to be a quick brief on the the how and why of the creation of the "tribal area" in Pakistan during the partition from India. Goes into some of the history of conflict between Paki and Afghani centered around the Pashtun issue. The Customary Laws of Afghanistanhttp://www.usip.org/ruleoflaw/projects/ilf_customary_law_afghanistan.pdf (64 pages) was produced by http://www.theilf.org/ (International Legal Foundation, Ltd) It says about the arkabai on pg 10. III. Enforcement The men responsible for the enforcement and implementation of the Jirga decisions are known as Arbakai. In ancient Aryan tribes, the Arbakai led groups of warriors in wartime and maintained law and order in peacetime. Today, they take orders from a commander. They are given considerable immunity in their communities and cannot be harmed or disobeyed. Those who flout these rules are subject to the punishments set by the Arbakai organization. I wonder how much impact the Sikh efforts to establish an independent Khalistan in the neighboring Punjab region during the 70s and 80s had on the Pushtuns deciding to try to recreate Pushtunistan?Do you find this valuable? |

If my wanderings around a topic subject are bothersome, let me know...Found something that seems to imply Taliban were enforcing Pashtu language compliance as part of their program.. http://sanjar.blogspot.com/2008/02/journalist-fine-is-linked-to.html#links It appears, at least according to the hints in that one person's blog, that the government of Afghanistan is continuing in that process, but a bit softer in doing so. It also seems to suggest that the Dari speaking peoples might be more naturally aligned with Iran. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Not sure what's acceptable or proper form or of use or value but this popped into my head so I'll put it out there, just in case.Research assignment: Gather general information on Afghanistan to include, but not limited to: History of relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Issues impacting either Afghanistan or Pakistan since the formation of Pakistan. Issues of contention and conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Relationship of languages spoken to religious faction or extra national identity/cultural sympathy. Names of prominent British officials from the period of British rule in the area and the rules, laws, problems they cause or problems they solved. Background familiarity with Soviet actions in Afghanistan Names of prominent Soviet military/civil leaders in Afghanistan and names of known Afghan collaborators or communist party members. Familiarity with the history of relationships between the peoples of south west asia to include northern India, Pakistan/Afghan area and bordering former Soviet states. Also, find 3 Afghan blogs in english language that each offer differing views on the same general subjects. Not blogs linked friend to friend. Do you find this valuable? |

word count exceeded. I need to learn to say more with less, I guess.Anyhoo, I don't know the ettiquet involved with starting or suggestion or offering up a research idea, but if we do intend to wander into a chat fight with folk either from that AO or about that AO, it'd be best not to wander in unarmed. I stuck it here in this thread hoping it'd be easier to delete if it's out of line or just not necessary or some such. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

pugmak, just jump on in, and start up a page where ever you see fit, if you think something doesn't make sense, or something that should go somewhere, then put it in or edit it, if other members think you have something that is worth editing, and they give good, tactical, or intelligence based reasons behind it, then all the better. For the moment, it's about a mess of information coming together, editing can come later. So just start up a page and jump on in, any target related info will end up supporting tactical ops later on, so the more info, and the more we edit, find better sources, analyse etc. the better our ops, when they begin will be. Ok thanks muchly.I'm still a bit weak on the concept I think. Should I hold off links to potential materials and such until I've gotten it worked down a bit more refined? I've done forums and blog commenting, but never anything wiki-ish except occasional reading. So I guess I'm asking.. the stuff we link in the forum, is that supposed to be wiki quality or is work in progress, study/hint/evaluation trails ok? Do you find this valuable? |

nah mate, just start up a page, have a basic outline or whatever, and then come back and edit it whenever you need to, raw data dumps are fine, it'll be edited by others if you put todo's on the page, basically like a swarm effect others will come in and edit, add data etc. as for what the forum is for, just discussion, if you want to post stuff here first, that is fine, probably best just to jump right in and post it though, others will edit it when see it, eventually this will end up in a cumulative effect, and far down the track, we'll have an informational advantage of our targets (imagine all of us starting, editing, collecting data, and attacking the enemy off our own initiative, that is the big picture, so take that initiative). 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
